How to download correct firmware file

This is the important part!

Be sure to check and find the correct the model no. of your Galaxy TabPro. Then based on your device’s model no., look for the appropriate firmware build from above.

You can identify the model no. using an app called Droid Info, or simply check it on its packaging box, or under Settings > About. Another solid trick would be to look at the packaging box of your device (in case you can’t power on the device because it is bricked).

Now that you know the model no., download the latest firmware from above for that model no. exactly.

Next, install the firmware on your Galaxy TabPro by following the guide linked right below.

How to Install Firmware

First, read our disclaimer, then take backup and then follow the guide below to install the firmware.

Disclaimer: Installing an official firmware through Odin doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Backup, backup, backup! Create an appropriate backup of contacts, pictures, videos, songs and other important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have a backup of all your important files. Sometimes, firmware installation may delete everything on your device! Like, when you change the CSC of your device, knowingly or not.

Step-by-step Firmware Installation Guide

Let’s see how to install the firmware on your Galaxy TabPro. Make sure you have more than 30% battery on your device.

Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy TabPro and download links.

Step 2. Install Samsung USB driver (method 1 on the linked page) first of all. Double click the .exe file of drivers to begin the installation. (Not required if you have already done this.)

Step 3. Also, download Odin PC software (latest version).

Step 4. Extract the firmware file now. You can use a free software like 7-zip for this. Install 7-zip, then right click on firmware file and under 7-zip, select ‘Extract here’. You should get a file in .tar.md5 format now. (You may get 4 or more files, with AP, BL, CP or CSC etc. written at the beginning of those files.) We will be loading this file into Odin, to be installed on device (in step 10 below).

Step 5. Extract the Odin file. You should get the Odin exe file (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).

Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy TabPro from PC if it is connected.

Step 7. Boot into download mode:

  • Power off your device. Wait for 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.
  • Press and hold the three buttons Volume down + Home + Power together until you see Warning screen.
  • Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.

Step 8. Double click on Odin .exe file (from step 5) to open the Odin window as shown below. Be careful with Odin, and do just as said to prevent problems.

Odin-3.10.6

Step 9. Connect your device now using USB cable. Odin should recognize your device. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.

Odin-3.10.6-Added-message
  • You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.
  • If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).
  • You can try different USB ports on your PC too.

Step 10. Load the firmware file into Odin. Click the AP button on Odin and the select the .tar.md5 file from above.

Load the firmware files(s) on your device. This depends on how many files you got in step 4 above upon extracting the firmware .zip file.

Case 1: If you got a single .tar/.tar.md5 file, then load this into AP tab of your Odin software. Then go to next step.

To load the file, click on AP tab, select the single firmware file starting with AP text, wait for it to load, and then skip to step 11, ignoring the rest of the part of this step.

Case 2: If you got more than one .tar/.tar.md5 file, then you must be having files starting with AP, CSC, Home_CSC, BL, CP, etc. stuff. In this case, choose the files as following. Select the firmware files as follows.

  • Click on BL tab, and select the file beginning with BL text.
  • Click on AP tab, and select the file beginning with AP text.
  • Click on CP tab, and select the file beginning with CP text.
  • [Different] Click on CSC tab, and select the file beginning with HOME_CSC text. If HOME_CSC file isn’t available, then select the file beginning with CSC text.

About CSC file: Using the HOME_CSC file won’t reset your device, and data on the phone shouldn’t be deleted. However, when we select regular CSC file, and it results in CSC on device being different than that in CSC file, your phone will be formatted automatically. You can even choose to ignore loading the CSC file, that may do alright too. But if it doesn’t works out, repeat the whole process and select CSC file this time around.

  • Info: When you load files, Odin checks the md5 of firmware file, which takes time. So, simply wait until that’s done and the firmware file is loaded. Don’t worry if Odin gets unresponsive for a while, it’s normal. Binary size will also show up in Odin.
Odin-3.10.6-Firmware-loaded-after-md5-check

Step 11. Click on Options tab, and make sure Re-partition check box is NOT selected. Don’t use PIT tab, ever.

Go back to Log tab now, as it will show the progress of firmware installation when you hit start button in next step.

Re-partition-Remains-Off

Step 12. Verify that everything is okay as mentioned above. When satisfied, click the Start button on Odin now to start flashing the firmware on your device.

Wait till installation is finished, after which your device will reboot automatically. You’ll get PASS message as shown below upon successful installation from Odin.

Odin-3.10.6-Pass-Message-Appears

Some errors you may run into, and with respective solution.

  • If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do this all again. Disconnect your device, close Odin, boot device into download mode again, open Odin, and then select the file and flash it again as said above.
  • If you get FAIL in the top left box, then also you need to flash the file again as stated just above.

That’s it. Let device restart automatically.

First start of the device may take time, so wait patiently again. When it has, verify the installation. Check the Settings > About device, to confirm new build no. based on the firmware you just installed.

galaxy-s7-Nougat-europe-release

Update [November 10, 2016]: Build no. of Android 7.0 Nougat firmware for the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile is already out on the web while there are no signs of imminent release just yet. Samsung released the Nougat beta yesterday for Korean Galaxy S7, but a Nougat beta firmware leaked out for the global varaint of Global Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge too, the relevant one added below too. Find the new build no. in the relevant carrier section below, but don’t expect these to release any soon, in fact, not within a month. Maybe by December end, we will have the Android 7.0 build out for Sprint Galaxy S7 Edge, and perhaps Verizon too.

Update [November 09, 2016]: Samsung released the Galaxy S7 Edge Nougat update as beta earlier today, and while it went live in Korea right away, we’re still waiting for the update for other Asian and European regions, and other models than G930K. But we know that the Nougat firmware will be G935FXXU1ZPK4 build. So, hang on while we try to get our hands on the PK4 Android 7.0 build for your S7 Edge, and keep checking this page repeatedly in the meantime. UPDATE: You can NOW download the G935FXXU1ZPK4 firmware, without need of password.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Stock Firmware

Model no. SM-G935A (AT&T)

BTW, you can also install the firmware available for the AT&T variant of UNLOCKED Galaxy S7 Edge, that comes with model no. SM-G935U, not typical G935A, and is provided in the separate section below. Look for model no. SM-G935U, AT&T edition.

The AT&T G935U firmware is confirmed to be working alright on regular locked Galaxy S7 Edge. Installing the G935U firmware on regular G935A device means all the AT&T apps and stuff are removed from the device, while Samsung’s such bloatware stuff can uninstalled to except for some 4 apps such Samsung Pay, Samsung Apps store, etc. Which is okay.

Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy S7 Edge from PC if it is connected.

Check the Settings > About device, to confirm new build no. based on the firmware you just installed.

honor-6-downgrade

If you are not finding the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update on your Honor 6 cool, and think the days of Lollipop is exactly what you and your Honor 6 needs, then Huawei is extending a hand to help you out.

There is a rollback package firmware — build C900B800 — available for the Honor 6, one each for UK and Italy. When installed, this will bring your Honor 6 back to Lollipop: 5.1.1 on Italian Honor 6, while 5.1 on UK one.

Download the rollback packages from below.

To install, extract the downloaded rollback package, and get the Update.APP from it (extract again if you don’t get it). Now, create a folder called dload on your Honor 6 if it’s not there already, and transfer the UPDATE.APP file to dload folder. Now, disconnect the phone from PC, and look for the ‘Local update’ under Menu, under Update option in Settings.

Tap on Local update. Device will look for your downgrade package, and when you confirm, it will install it. That’s it, you successfully downgraded from Marshmallow to Lollipop, build H60-L04_C900B800.

Galaxy S6 Android 5.1 Update G920FXXU2BOFJ, and Downgrade and Root trick!

Galaxy-S6-Android-5.1-Update

At last, the international Galaxy S6 Android 5.1 update is out, too. It was ironical that its twin brother S6 Edge received it yesterday while the edge-less variant was left out. But here we have the full official Android 5.1 update available for International Galaxy S6, model no. SM-G920F, build no. being G920FXXU2BOFJ.

We know 5.1 update sounds mouth-watering but before you head over to install it, let us tell you that this update block downgrade ability of the device, thus you cannot go back to Android 5.0 build in case you don’t like Android 5.1 update — we do have a solution for this, btw, just look for method 2 below. but you cannot use Odin PC software to update, if you do, you will not be able to downgrade. Further root access isn’t available yet for the Samsung android 5.1 build, whatever device or model it is.

Sure, we also know root access will be achieved sooner or later, but if you want downgrade, use the Method 2 given below, which requires you to have root access already. Don’t use Method 1, our traditional and simple Odin PC flash that would flash the update as it is, thus blocking root.

Other Samsung device that have already received the Android 5.1 update are: T-Mobile Galaxy S5, S6 and S6 Edge, International S6 Edge, US Cellular S6 and S6 Edge.

How to retain Downgrade ability on Android 5.1 update? And what about Root?

If you have root access, you can still prevent the downgrade from getting blocked via update, while installing the update too, a bit partial though. See Method 2 below for this, that uses FlashFire android app and guides you how to flash the same OFJ 5.1 firmware using the Android app, and prevent downgrade block. It’s the same firmware you would flash with PC Odin software (Method 1), but you lose downgrade ability in Method 1.

All in all, if you don’t want root, and don’t mind the downgrade inability, simply update your Galaxy S6 to 5.1 firmware using Method 1 below, that uses Odin PC software. It’s easiest and requires no preparation. But, if you want to keep ability to downgrade, and so that you can root your Galaxy S6 again after downgrading it, follow method 2 that does the job using FlashFire android app. But you would need root access on your Galaxy S6 for this.

How to Install Galaxy S6 Android 5.1 Update

Supported devices

  • INTERNATIONAL SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 (model no. SM-G920F)
  • Don’t try this on Galaxy S6 variants at Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, US Cellular, etc. whose model no. is not G920R4!
  • Don’t try on any other device whatsoever!

Instructions

Disclamer: Installing an official firmware through Odin doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files. Sometimes, Odin installation may delete everything on your device!

METHOD 1 - USING ODIN PC SOFTWARE

This is a very simple method to upgrade to Android 5.1, as it requires no preparation. Just install and you are done. But, you won’t be able to downgrade back to Android 5.0! Moreover, root access isn’t available for Android 5.1 yet.

  1. Download the Odin software and firmware file from above.
(Note: If you want the ability to downgrade to 5.0 and root thereafter, don’t use this method. Instead, look for method 2 on this page.)
  2. Install Galaxy S6 drivers (method 1 there!) first of all. Double click the .exe file of drivers to begin installation. (Not required if you have already done this.)
  3. Extract the firmware file now. You can use a free software like 7-zip for this. Install 7-zip, then right click on firmware file and under 7-zip, select ‘Extract here’.
  4. You should get the a file in .tar.md5 format now (G920FXXU2BOFJ_G920FOXA2BOFJ_G920FXXU2BOFJ_HOME.tar.md5). We will be loading this file into Odin, to be installed on your Galaxy S6 (in step 10 below).
  5. Extract the Odin file. You should get this file, Odin3 v3.10.6.exe (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).
  6. Disconnect your S6 from PC if it is connected.
  7. Boot Galaxy S6 into download mode:
    1. Power off your S6. Wait 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.
    2. Press and hold the three buttons Volume Down + Power + Home together until you see warning screen.
    3. Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.
  8. Double click on extracted file of Odin, Odin3 v3.10.6.exe, to open the Odin window, as shown below. Be careful with Odin, and do just as said to prevent problems.

  9. Connect your Galaxy S6 to PC now using USB cable. Odin should recognize your S6. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.
    • You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.
    • If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).
    • You can try different USB ports on your PC too, btw.

  10. Load the firmware file into Odin (that you got in step 4 above). Click the AP button on Odin and the select the file: G920FXXU2BOFJ_G920FOXA2BOFJ_G920FXXU2BOFJ_HOME.tar.md5
    • Info: When you load files, Odin checks the md5 of firmware file, which takes time. So, simply wait until that’s done and the firmware file is loaded. Don’t worry if Odin gets unresponsive for a while, it’s normal. Binary size will also show up in Odin.

  11. Make sure Re-partition checkbox is NOT selected, under the Options tab. Don’t use PIT tab either. Go back to Log tab btw, it will show the progress when you hit start button in next step.

  12. Click the Start button on Odin now to start flashing the firmware on your Galaxy S6. Wait till installation is finished, after which your S6 will reboot automatically. You’ll get PASS message as show below upon successful installation from Odin.
    • If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do steps 6 to 12 again. For this, close Odin, disconnect your S6, remove battery, insert it back after 5-6 seconds and then start from step 6 again.
    • Or, if you get FAIL in the top left box, you need to try flashing again, as stated just above.
      558x157xOdin-3.10.6-Pass-Message-Appears.jpg.pagespeed.ic.0QsvFD5eAc
  13. First start of the device may take time, so wait patiently again. Check the Settings > About phone to confirm new firmware.

That’s it. Enjoy the G920FXXU2BOFJ Android 5.1.1 firmware, or call it OFJ in short, on your Galaxy S6!

If you need any help with this, let us know via comments below and we will try our best to help you out.

METHOD 2 - USING FLASHFIRE ANDROID APP (NEEDS ROOT)

This method retains your device’s ability to downgrade easily when needed. So that you can also root your Galaxy S6 after downgrading, as root is available on Android 5.0 builds. But you need root access for this method.

  1. Download the firmware file from above.
(Note: If you DO NOT want the ability to downgrade to 5.0 and root thereafter, don’t use this method. Instead, look for method 1 on this page tat is easy and doesn’t require root access, but you will lose ability to downgrade, while we think root will be available soon anyway, more or less.)
  2. Extract the firmware file now. You can use a free software like 7-zip for this. Install 7-zip, then right click on firmware file and under 7-zip, select ‘Extract here’.
  4. Connect your Galaxy S6 to PC, and transfer the tar file to phone. Remember the location where you save it.
  5. Make sure you have root access. You can use PingPong root if your current firmware is supported. Otherwise, use cf-auto-root.
  6. It’s good to set the ‘Screen timeout’ to 10 minutes under Settings > Display.
  7. Disconnect the phone, and download the Flashfire android app that we will use to flash the firmware in tar format:
    1. Login into Google using the same Gmail ID that you are using on phone. Go to Google+ page and join the community.
    2. Next, sign up here to be able to install the app from play store and receive updates.
    3. Use the play store link provided thereafter to get to pay store page of the app and install it. It may take hours before it shows up for you in play store. You can only wait.
  8. Open the Flashfire app. Provide it root permissions by tapping on Grant on the pop-up that shows up. And tap on Agree button on the Disclaimer pop-up that comes only one time. (Tip: Read the Instructions section, it’s helpful.)
  9. Tap on + sign, select ‘Flash firmware package’ and then select the firmware tar file (G920FXXU2BOFJ_G920FOXA2BOFJ_G920FXXU2BOFJ_HOME.tar.md5) from step 3 here.
    1200x533xVerizon-Galaxy-S5-Flashfire-App.jpg.pagespeed.ic.FL7S_LLURN
  10. IGNORE 4th SCREENSHOT IN ABOVE IMAGE! Select partitions as said here. Once you select the firmware’s .tar file, the Flashfire app will start scanning the file (as shown above), and will bring up the available partitions in the .tar in a list. Select all partitions except Recovery partition. Then tap on the right checkmark button at right top corner.
Take care to NOT select Recovery partition, otherwise you will lose the ability to downgrade. The recovery partition contains code that blocks downgrade, so we are to avoid installing it.
  11. Tap on EverRoot, and un-tick all options again. Hit checkmark button, of course, then.
  12. Okay, you are all set to drop down the lightening. Hit the FLASH button at bottom now to start flashing process. Tap on OK to confirm.
Important! Btw, it seems Flashfire reboots the device before completely finish the process. To prevent that, there’s a small trick, keep hitting volume up/down every few seconds. Take care of this!

That would be it. Soon enough, you would have the Android 5.1 firmware running on your Galaxy S6. Enjoy! And do share this page with anyone who you think would find it useful.

If there is anything you wanna ask to us in this regard, sure let us know via comments below.

PSA: Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge OF1 update prevents downgrade and blocks root, don’t update!

verizon-galaxy-s6-edge-OF1-update-downgrade-problem

It’s just been confirmed that the latest update for Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge, OF1, prevents users from downgrading back to previous firmware versions, or the one device came pre-installed with. The same code that blocked the download ability on T-Mobile S6 Edge 5.1.1 update was found on OF1 build — though ironically it’s not 5.1.1 update some may be craving for — and suspecting that, a thread was opened up by trailblazer101, asking users whether they could downgrade using Odin anymore.

Upon which, people did confirm that Odin won’t flash the full firmware on OF1 update which it used to otherwise. Moreover, the root exploits have been patched too. Meaning you won’t be able to root using PingPong root, until and unless new tricks show up.

So if you are holding a Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge, model no. SM-G925V, in your hand, please be advised to not update your phone to OF1 update if you want to keep root access, as downgrading back to previous firmware on which root is supported isn’t possible anymore.

How to download correct firmware file

This is the important part!

Be sure to check and find the correct the model no. of your Galaxy Tab S2.

Now that you know the model no., download the latest firmware from above for that model no. exactly.

Next, install the firmware on your Galaxy Tab S2 by following the guide linked right below.

Let’s see how to install the firmware on your Galaxy Tab S2. Make sure you have more than 30% battery on your device.

Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy Tab S2 and download links.

Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy Tab S2 from PC if it is connected.

Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy J5 and download links.

Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy J5 from PC if it is connected.

Galaxy A8, A8 2017 and A8+ Firmware download [stock ROM, all variants]

Samsung is handing its infinity display with Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ 2017 to smartphone buyers looking to buy a solid mid-range Android phone. While there is some solid competition under this range from established names (read: OnePlus and Nokia), this still makes sense given the brand goodwill Samsung enjoys, and a somehow-still-persisting traditional belief in people’s mind that Chinese OEMs don’t offer quality, something we digress.

Anyway, if you own a Galaxy A8, or are looking to buy one, you would be glad to know that we already have a stock firmware with us, and have made it available for download for you guys too.

Having a stock firmware of your device is plenty helpful, as in case an emergency arises, where your phone is bricked due to any reason you can simply install the firmware to go back to stock on your A8. This helps in unbricking the phone, as well, as update the software when with the latest firmware, which we shall provide you below.

In case you ever root your Galaxy A8 or install TWRP recovery, this will also help you unroot the Galaxy A8, and remove TWRP recovery — all you need to do it is install the firmware provided below on your Galaxy A8 using the installation guide that is also provided below.

Let’s see how to install the firmware on your Galaxy A8. Make sure you have more than 30% battery on your device.

Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy A8 and download links.

Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy A8 from PC if it is connected.

How to download correct firmware file

This is the important part!

Be sure to check and find the correct the model no. of your Galaxy J7.

Now that you know the model no., download the latest firmware from above for that model no. exactly.

Next, install the firmware on your Galaxy J7 by following the guide linked right below.

Let’s see how to install the firmware on your Galaxy J7. Make sure you have more than 30% battery on your device.

Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy J7 and download links.

Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy J7 from PC if it is connected.

Let’s see how to install the firmware on your Galaxy Tab S3. Make sure you have more than 30% battery on your device.

Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy Tab S3 and download links.

Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy Tab S3 from PC if it is connected.
